Birds - Broad-winged Hawk
Class:Aves Order:Falconiformes Family:Accipitridae Genus:Buteo

Broad-winged Hawk, Buteo platypterus. Did you know that among raptors, females actually tend to be bigger than the males? This is true for the broad-winged hawk, as well. The bird is mostly brown with a speckled tan and white chest. The tail feathers appear to have white bars when seen from below. Nick and I have both photographed these hawks around Leawood and Prairie Village in the late Summer.

All species pages are currently being updated with more useful descriptions and information.
