Birds - Chuck-will's-widow
Class:Aves Order:Caprimulgiformes Family:Caprimulgidae Genus:Antrostomus

Chuck-will's-widow, Antrostomus carolinensis. This nightjar is a nocturnal, migrating bird. They are mostly insectivores, but with an occassional small mammal when the mood strikes. They are identified by their short beaks and long tails. They have brown feathers, marked with black and white. John photographed this Chuck-will's-widow in Leawood in early June.
