Birds - Eared Grebe
Class:Aves Order:Podicipediformes Family:Podicipedidae Genus:Podiceps


Eared Grebe, Podiceps nigricollis. This is a small water bird. Matures are black and brown with red eyes. Juveniles are more gray and than brown and their underside is white. The mature males have golden eyelash-like plumes around the eye. The Eared Grebe feeds mostly on water bugs. Photographed these beautiful birds at Shawnee Mission Park.
