Class:Aves Order:Falconiformes Family:Accipitridae Genus:Buteo

Ferruginous Hawk, Buteo regalis . The largest of the hawks, the Ferruginous Hawk is named for its rusty coloring. Ferrum is latin for iron. His beak and feet are yellow and his belly is fresh and white. From the top, you can see his brown textured wings end with dark tips. Ferruginous Hawk photographed by Nick Varvel.
