Birds - Greater Roadrunner
Class:Aves Order:Cuculiformes Family:Cuculidae Genus:Geococcyx

Greater Roadrunner, Geococcyx californianus. "Californian Earth-Cuckoo" A darker colored bird with a longer neck. The back is streaked with gold. They have a "mohawk" of feathers on the crown of the head. The roadrunner is an omnivore - he eats a variety of foods including fruit, insects, small reptiles and more. As their name impliues, they can move around quite quickly. Rarely seen in Kansas and Missouri although I was in the Ozarks recently and they indicated that they were seeing one regularly.

All species pages are currently being updated with more useful descriptions and information.
