Birds - Great Horned Owl
Class:Aves Order:Strigiformes Family:Strigidae

Great Horned Owl, Bubo virginianus. Also known as the Tiger Owl or the Hoot Owl, the Great Horned Owl doesn't actually have horns. Instead, it is named for the yellow tufts behind the ears. Their coloring camoflauges them in the trees; but their bright, yellow (sometimes orange) eyes give them away. Like most owls, they eat a variety of animals. I hear them occasionally but see them in the wild rarely. Most of these pictures are either of owls in captivity or on the nest.

All species pages are currently being updated with more useful descriptions and information.
