Birds - Lesser Scaup
Class:Aves Order:Anseriformes Family:Anatidae Genus:Aythya

Lesser scaup, Aythya affinis. Also known as the Little bluebill or the Broadbill, this blue-billed diving duck is named for its diet of shelled waterlife; like mussels. There is defintitely sexual dichromatism in play with this species as the males are a striking contrast of black and white with yellow eyes and the lesser scaup females are a ruddy brown with amber eyes, but still blue-billed. Lesser Scaup photographed by Nick Varvel and John McConnell.

All species pages are currently being updated with more useful descriptions and information.
