Birds - Loggerhead Shrike

Loggerhead Shrike, Lanius dovicianus. The Shrike. A songbird that hunts like a predator. They sit high, waiting to spot insects, small reptiles and mammals, and even other birds. Then they kill their prey using weapons like thorns. The Loggerhead can be found all over North America. They are small- gray, black and white in color with a hooked bill. These Loggerhead Shrike were photographed in Miami and Linn County.
