Birds - Merlin
Class:Aves Order:Falconiformes Family:Falconidae

Merlin, Falco columbarius. Small falcon that can be found in the Central States in Winter only. Males are larger than females, known as sexual dimorphism, and the different coloring between the male and female is referred to as sexual dichromatism. The males have a cesious (blue-gray) back with a brown and ruddy streaked belly. Females have brown-gray backs and spotted bellies. Saw this little Falcon in Southern Missouri. I dub it a Merlin because of its size, the markings on the head and the spotted breast.
