Birds - Purple Finch
Class:Aves Order:Passeriformes Family:Fringillidae

Purple Finch, Carpodacus purpureus. A larger finch seen around KC in the winter. Their beak is relatively robust and the color of the male is vibrant. Females are brown and white with a thick white line over the eye and across the cheek. They eat a pretty standard diet of berries, seeds and insects. I read that you don't see these birds around that often because they are being displaced by the House Finch and House Sparrow.
