Class:Aves Order:Anseriformes Family:Anatidae Genus:Aythya

Redhead Duck, Aythya americana. The male Redhead Duck (drake) is strikingly handsome. The head is a beautiful reddish brown and tops a black breast and shoulder with a gray body and wings. The tail feathers return to the darker coloring and the bill is a blue-gray with a white and black tip. The females, like so many female ducks, are tan and brown, but with the same distinctive bill as the males. These Redhead ducks were photographed at Shawnee Mission Park and Wyandotte County Lake.
